The president of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, has attributed the high number of small businesses in Nigeria that fail in its first five years to an inadequate creation and collaboration.
Speaking in this year edition of the Institute’s Corporate Membership Forum on Wednesday, the CIPM Chief said that, while the country boasts of abundant human and natural resources for companies to take advantage of, the lack of collaboration has continued to be the ruin of such businesses.
He emphasized the need for human resources practitioners (human resources) in the country to collaborate, in business forms, human resources and strategy and private sector to public policies, to improve business growth.
When describing the commercial land of the nation as hard, but full of opportunities, Gobir pointed out that these opportunities would only be used by collaboration, either through joint companies, integration of the supply chain or share talent pipes.
“Sustainability without collaboration is how to cook jollo rice without pepper. It will be flavor. For companies, we must work together to cook that jollo rice.
“The Nigerian commercial land is difficult, but it is also full of opportunities. Collaboration is the currency of the future, either through joint companies, integration of the supply chain or shared talent pipes, sustainability depends on how well we associate us,” he added.
The main speaker of the event, Mrs. Lilian Somiari, said that collaborations have become imperative for people and organizations, eager to remain relevant.
Somiari, who is the general manager, human resources, strategy, organization and performance, total energy EP Nigeria Ltd, added that sustainability is no longer an option for organizations and companies, but a key imperative for growth and survival.
She, however, argued that for a company to be sustainable, such organizations must be ready to reach others of similar and shared vision.
Somiari said that some countries no longer deal with organizations that contributed little or nothing to their sustainability objective as a country or region.
“The collaboration, therefore, is a business imperative. But, for such collaboration to be strategic, it must be intentional. In addition, it must be able to collaborate internally, do it effectively.
