The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 northern states and the territory of the Federal Capital (FCT) has expressed a deep concern for the deterioration of the security situation throughout the country, especially persistent murders and kidnappings in the states of Benue and Born.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary General, Elder Sunday Oise and made available to journalists in Kaduna on Sunday.
It can be seen that the activities of murders perpetrated by criminal shepherds and terrorists of Boko Haram in the north have made life more and more unbearable for innocent citizens.
“On Saturday, June 13, we received distressing reports from attacks from alleged shepherds in the communities of Yelewata and Daudu in the area of ​​the local government of the state of Benue. The available information indicated that more than 100 people were feared in the attack by alleged pastors.
“These attacks occurred less than 48 hours after the tragic murders of 25 people in the communities of Mtswenem and Akondough Bawa, in Makurdi LGA, which resulted in a massive loss of lives and a generalized displacement of residents.
The reports indicate that many internally displaced people (IDP) and the farmers were killed, and, according to the reports, some burned burned in makeshift shelters.
“According to the reports, the gunmen, armed with sophisticated weapons, launched the attack around midnight and operated for more than two hours.
Similarly, last week in the state of Borno, a person was killed and Reverend Fr. Daniel Afina, a Catholic priest and coordinator of the project of a Christian NGO, along with nine others, was kidnapped by Boko Haram/Iswap's terrorists on the Gwoza-Limankara road.
“The group returned from Mubi in the state of Adamawa when they were ambushed. The security situation seems to be worse at a time when these criminal elements had been contained.
“We urgently call the federal government to take decisive and comprehensive measures to stop the murders and restore peace and security.
“The administration of President Bola Tinubu has achieved initial progress to stop these violent activities; however, these profits must be supported and expanded.
“We urge the President to urgently declare the total war against these criminals and direct security agencies to neutralize the threat within a clear and enforceable term. If the situation is beyond the capacity of Nigeria's security forces, the Government must seek international assistance to stop the murders and kidnappings.
“The murders are unacceptable; even within the animal kingdom, this brutality is generally limited, but in Nigeria, innocent lives are lost meaningless and repeatedly,” the statement said.
