The Union of Journalists of Nigeria (NUJ), Federal Council of Capital Territory (FCT), on Saturday, together with the Nizamiye hospital, provided free health controls for more than 300 journalists in Abuja.
The medical scope, which took place in the Secretariat of Nuj FCT ​​in Utako, Abuja, included blood pressure exams and blood sugar levels, among others.
This occurs as the Chief of Staff of Defense (CDS), General Christopher Musa, praised both the Nuj FCT ​​hospital and the Nizamiye hospital for his reflective initiative to take care of the health of journalists.
Representing the CDs in the event, the Director of Medical Services, the surgeon Comodoro Momoh Jimoh Salihu, said: “Actually, it is a laudable event and I want to congratulate the NUJ FCT and the Nizamiye hospital to organize and perform this medical scope for journalists.
“This effort will improve the well -being and productivity of journalists in Abuja and will help them stay focused on their work.”
In his comments, the president of the Council of Nuj FCT, Comrade Grace Ike, thanked Nizamiye hospital for bringing his team of specialists, including a general surgeon, internist, cardiologist, nephrologist, ophthalmologist and general doctors.
She emphasized the importance of caring for the health of journalists, saying: “We will always make sure that our members are healthy. They go to the field every time and most of the time they hardly have time to verify themselves on themselves.”

The doctors of the Nizamiye hospital carried out several controls in areas such as cardiac health, bones and joints, eyes and dental care.
Mohammed Abubakar, deputy director of Operations of the Hospital, previously confirmed the support of the hospital for the event and other similar health programs in the FCT.
“Our goal was to perform medical detection for journalists in the FCT. The objective of medical scope is to prevent diseases. We are known for giving humanitarian aid and this for us is an association with the NUJ FCT.
“The main disease that prevails so far is high blood pressure and sugar level and for eye problems we will return to the hospital and return to members who have serious medical eye problems for surgery when necessary,” he added.

Speaking during the exercise, the medical deputy director of the Nizamiye hospital, Dr. Nurullo Sadokov, declared that the medical scope was part of the hospital's corporate social responsibility.
He said: “I hope this evaluation helps journalists identify and prevent diseases and diseases.”
“For what we have seen so far, there are journalists with blood pressure and blood sugar problems. Our surgeon here has identified some journalists with hernia and hemorrhage.”
“We are making plans for these patients to come to our hospital for adequate treatment and management. We came here for a general exam.”
“They can have a problem or not. After identifying problems and diseases, then we will take another step, which is at the hospital level.”
“Some patients may end at the diagnosis level, while others may need more attention. At the end of the day, we will make a list and make recommendations for NUJ,” he said.
