A head of the Congress of all progressives (APC) in the state of Osun, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, on Saturday declared his intention to compete for the position of the governorate in the 2026 elections, expressing his confidence that he has everything necessary to direct the State towards the progress if he is given the party of the party.
Ogunbiyi, who made the comment during his statement in his hometown of Ile-Gbo in the state's local government area of ​​the state, said he has the ability and ability to quickly transform and strengthen the State.
He declared: “I am here to declare my intention to run for the governor of this state. If you look at the story, you will know that Iwo has been marginalized and that we have been in the progressives during all these years without hesitation.”
“Our approach has been in the progressives, and we now believe that our leader, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, is no longer playing, we believe that it is correct so that Iwo Federal Beorthuency challenge this election.”
“We are not only disputing. One thing is very clear. The federal constituency, particularly the municipality of Iwo, is completely behind Akin Ogunbiyi. It is only when we obtained that consensus that we left, and I am going out to declare my aspiration, not for fun, but to get the ticket of the party.”

On the autonomy of the state local government, Ogunbiyi said: “The state government can continue to fight for the issue of local government, but the law is very clear and safe. It is not only Osun where they seized the assignment of LG. One of the things that the government of Tinubu did that will really help the development was to give autonomy to the local government.”
