Membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives was depleted on Wednesday as the member representing the Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Hon. Daniel Amos, formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

With the latest defection, the number of APC members in the Green Chamber now stands at 244, while the PDP has been reduced to 71.

The Labor Party has 21; New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP): 15; Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) – 5; Action Democratic Party (ADC) – 1, Social Democratic Party (SDP) – 2 and Youth Progressive Party (YPP) – 1.

President Abbas Tajudeen, who confirmed this during the plenary session, read the communication of the Hon. Amos’s defection on the House floor.

Honorable. Amos said his decision came after deep reflection on persistent internal crises and unresolved contradictions within the PDP, which he noted had weakened the party’s unity and effectiveness at the national level.

He stated that his defection was driven by the need to align himself with a platform that better represents the aspirations of his constituents and the current direction of government in Kaduna State and at the federal level.

The lawmaker also praised the leadership of Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Abbas Tajudeen for their focus on reforms, inclusivity and good governance.
