Before the National Convention of the Political Party of the main opposition, the Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP), some of the most influential figures of the party, known as eminent personalities, the bets have increased by issuing a demand of six points to the National Work Committee (NWC) of the party.
This decision was made during a high -level interested parties meeting held at the official residence of the Minister of Territory of the Federal Capital (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike.
At the meeting, the former governor of the State of Benue, Dr. Samuel Ortom, the former governor of the state of Ekiti, Ayo Fayose, the former governor of the state of Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu, and his counterpart from Enugu Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi emphasized that the opposition party must commit to equity, equity and inclusion to continue being a credible alternative for the Nigerian.
The National Secretary of the party, Senator Sam Anyanwu was also present at the meeting.
In a statement issued in the early hours of Tuesday in the name of the group and read by the former governor of the state of Benue, Dr. Samuel Ortom, the interested parties warned that the breach of their demands “would make any alleged national convention invalid, as legitimate members of the party they would be private of the insistent.”
The heavyweights of the PDP demanded that: “A new Congress must be carried out in the states of Ebonyi and Anambra, in strict fulfillment of the judgments of the subsistent court.
“A new Zonal Congress of the Southeast must be urgently carried out. The result of the South South Congress in Calabar, already confident by the courts, must be respected.
“The PDP must immediately carry out the congresses of Ekiti LGA, in line with the judicial pronouncements. There should be no offices microzoning, beyond the general zoning formula already adopted by the National Executive Committee NEC, to maintain peace and stability.
“The position of national presidency must remain in the North Center, consisting of the Zoning Agreement of the 2021 Convention.
The leaders emphasized that the PDP is in a “definition crossroads”, and that any attempt to put aside valid members or ignore judicial decisions would only deepen divisions.
“The unit cannot be built on the deprivation of rights, the exclusion or carelessness of the valid judicial pronouncements,” said the statement. He added that only transparency and equity would guarantee a credible convention.
The interested parties warned of the leadership of the PDP that ignoring these resolutions could immerse the party in a greater crisis.
“The PDP was built on the basis of inclusion, equity and justice. To claim its pride as the true opposition of Nigeria, the party now must exceed close interests and adopt collective responsibility,” they urged.
