The former governor of the State of Anambra and the presidential candidate of Labor Party 2023, Peter Obi, has donated ₦ 10 million to Archbishop Charles Heerey College of Health Sciences and Technology, NKPor (Achcohsten), to support the continuous development of infrastructure in the institution.
Peter Obi made the donation on Saturday during the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Achcohsten, which also presented enrollment and call ceremonies.
In his speech, OBI identified the shortage of health professionals as a critical global challenge, emphasizing that Nigeria should train the most competent hands to meet the growing demand.
He urged graduate and registration students to take their studies seriously and see themselves as “potential global citizens” who can contribute not only to the Nigerian health system but to the world in general.
“I am here today because I believe in you; I believe in education; I believe in the construction of people and institutions,” Obi said.
He reminded them that the country is going through difficult times and urged Nigerians to always choose leaders with competition and integrity.

The presidential candidate of LP praised the administration of Achcohsten for the quality of the training offered, remembering how he had met with university graduates in the United States and Great Britain, who proudly presented themselves as their former students during their mandate as governor.
“On several occasions, I have met their graduates abroad, in the United States, Great Britain, London and other countries, and they presented themselves as products of this institution during my time as governor. That is proud,” he added.
The Rector of the College, Rev. Mr., Dr. Maria Uzochukwu Ozor, tracked the humble beginnings of the institution in 2005 such as the School of Medical Laboratory Technicians (Somlán), before its transformation into a complete multi -partial university.
He praised OBI’s constant support over the years, remembering that, in addition to donating two mountainous buses and building a female shelter, he had remained a firm benefactor.
He highlighted the achievements of the school, including multiple accreditations, expansion in pharmacy technician, community health, environmental health and medical image/x -ray departments, and outstanding national exam results.
In addition, he revealed that in the last 20 years, the university had graduated from more than 700 health workers who now practiced worldwide in countries such as the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The superior of the IHM sisters, Rev. Madre Maureen Akabogu, also thanked all the benefactors and prayed for God’s blessings about them.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the University presented OBI a “prize of excellence” in recognition of its contributions.
The highlight of the event was the launch of a commemorative book entitled Growth and Wonder, written by The Provost.
In its 20 years of existence, Achcohsten has become a health science education center, producing distinguished graduates that stand out worldwide as medical laboratory scientists, nurses, public health officers, psychologists, engineers, entrepreneurs and religious ministers.
The celebration began with a Holy Mass and presented an academic procession, launch of books, awards, registration and call ceremonies.
