Peter Obi is our product, we want to recover it – PDP

The Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP) has revealed that it is making deliberate movements to bring back the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labor Party, Peter Obi, to the party.

This was revealed by the Deputy National Advertising Secretary of the PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi, who described OBI as a key political figure whose return would significantly improve the electoral perspectives of the party.

Speaking during an interview on Arise television, Abdullahi praised the exhibition of OBI in the 2023 presidential elections, where he surveyed more than six million votes throughout the country, despite what he knew as “deliberate frustration” of his possibilities in several states.

He said: “Peter Obi is our product. We want to recover it, in fact, because it is a very, very large capital for any political party.”

He pointed out that if Obi remained with the PDP and did not find institutional obstacles, his performance in the elections could have been even stronger.

“If I had not continued as it did in the last dispensation and had not faced the institutional obstacles that were placed on their way, we are sure that it would have had even better performance. That it could still order more than six million votes shows that it is not a candidate to ignore.”

Abdullahi acknowledged that OBI's departure from the PDP to the Labor Party before the 2023 elections was a significant blow, but said that the former vice presidential candidate continues to enjoy respect and good will within the PDP.

“All political parties that have the opportunity to have it will have an advantage. And certainly, PDP is not renouncing that effort,” he added.

In addition, he declared that the PDP is currently making internal consultations and formulating long -term strategies aimed at consolidating the opposition forces before the 2027 general elections, with efforts to reintegrate the OBI being part of that broader plan.

“In the fullness of time, we believe we could recover it. It will be a great boost for the PDP.”
