The Independent Electoral Commission of the State of Plateau (PLASIEC) has published the Time Table and the schedule of activities for the elections of the local government 2026 as ordered by the Law of the Commission to issue a notice of the elections no later than 360 days before the date.
At a press conference held at Jos, Plateau state on Thursday, the president of the commission, Mr. Plangil Daniel Cishak, revealed that the 17 elections of the Local Government Council would take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
He said that the release of the time table that agreed with section 19 (2) of the Plasiec 2024 Law also took into account the fact that the elections in these offices were stipulated that it took place at the latest 30 days before the expiration of the mandate of the last holder of that office.
Therefore, the last date for the realization of elections in the local government councils in the State of Plateau is September 1, 2026.
“The Commission is empowered by section 33 (1) of the Law of the Electoral Commission Independent of the State of Plateau to issue a notice of the elections no later than three hundred and sixty (360) days before the date of the elections”
