The president of the House of Representatives, Rt. Excmo Abbas Tajudeen has withdrawn the mandatory voting bill, which aimed to make the vote mandatory for all eligible Nigerians.
The bill, co -colored by Hon. Daniel Adama makes, he introduced himself to boost civic commitment and strengthen democracy by encouraging greater electoral participation.
The speaker declared that the decision to withdraw the bill was taken after broad consultations with interested parties.
Instead of a convincing participation, he said he is committed to exploring positive incentives and innovative approaches so that the vote is more attractive and accessible to all Nigerians.
The withdrawal of the bill will allow a greater dialogue on how to cultivate a culture of voluntary participation that honors democratic ideals and citizens' rights.
The speaker, in a statement of his special advisor on media and advertising, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, said that countries such as Australia, Belgium and Brazil have successfully implemented mandatory vote, but believes that a different approach may be more suitable for Nigeria.
“After extensive consultations with a broad spectrum of interested parties, he has decided to withdraw the bill to amend the electoral law of 2022 to make the vote mandatory for all eligible Nigerians, which co -matocinated with Hon. Daniel Adama.”
“The mandatory vote has been practiced for a long time with a remarkable success in countries such as Australia, Belgium and Brazil, where it has helped maintain participation rates greater than 90 percent, while nations such as Argentina and Singapore have also implemented similar measures to promote inclusion in the bowling alley,” the statement added.
