The organization for women in the science of the developing world (OWSD), Ibadan Branch, has emphasized the importance of publicly recognizing people and organizations that demonstrate a strong commitment to scientific research and the defense of health.
In line with this, OWSD has selected Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, managing director and executive director of CEOAFRICA, for a special recognition in honor of their exceptional contributions to the defense of public health and their efforts to involve young people in scientific research.
Ilobanafor, the initiator of the Geneith Health Competition (GHC), has been fundamental to promote the prevention and control of malaria among Nigerian young people.
The GHC, aimed at secondary and tertiary students throughout the country, is sponsored by Geneith International Pharmaceuticals LTD, with a prize of ₦ billion, one of the most ambitious health awareness initiatives in the country.
In recognition of your sustained support for OWSD investigation and community programs, Ilobanafor will be granted with the honorary title of “Friend of Owsd” on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
The awards ceremony, organized by the general director of the Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research (Niser), Professor Antonia Simbine, will take place in Niser, Ibadan.
According to the OWSD Ibadan branch, unwavering Ilobanafor contributions to the progress of scientific research and communication has made it a model to follow between genres and academic levels.
In an official invitation letter, the organization said: “Its unforgettable efforts have inspired early, medium and advanced career researchers, which makes it a model to follow to emulate higher and male education in higher education.”
According to the organization, its dedication to close the gap between scientific research and the defense of community health has not only supported the OWSD mission but also amplified national conversations around malaria, a disease that remains a main cause of disease and death in Nigeria.
The organization declared that its recognition underlines the vital role of private sector defenders to empower academic and basic efforts to address pressing health challenges.
The Ilobanafor award will be presented during a special session that includes a workshop and recognition of other taxpayers to scientific development.
OWSD, a UNESCO Program Unit, is a voluntary association of allied scientific and researchers women extracted from the high institutions, including the University of Ibadan, the Ibadan Polytechnic, the National Institute for Horticultural Research (Nihort), Nigeria Forest Research Institute (Frin), National Agricultural Research and Technology Agencies (Naggrab), Institute for Research Agriculture and Training (Cocralia, Cocralia Cocalia, Cocalia, Cocalia de Cocioa Research.
The organization aims to promote collaboration and tutoring between women in Stem and social sciences, with a strong focus on research that directly benefits society.
By reaffirming his vision of creating a more inclusive and supporting environment for researchers from all disciplines, OWSD said he would continue to honor those, such as Ilobanafor, who make this vision possible.
