The first phase of Senator Sunday Marshall Katung’s free hepatitis B vaccination program has begun in four local government areas of southern Kaduna as part of efforts to curb the spread of the disease across the district.
The three-day exercise began in Zangon Kataf, Kaura, Jema’a and Jaba local government areas, with vaccination centers located at primary health care centers in Zonkwa, Zango Urban, Manchok, Kagoro, Kwoi, Daddu and Gidan Waya.
Speaking at the end of the first phase, Senator Katung’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications said the intervention underlined the legislator’s commitment to improving healthcare and reducing the burden of viral hepatitis in Kaduna South Senatorial District.
“The health of our people is wealth. That is why Senator Katung started this program with the sole objective of saving lives, protecting families and giving our children a healthier future,” he said.

He explained that the vaccination exercise was strictly for people who tested negative during the recent viral hepatitis B and C screening conducted across the district.
According to him, the second phase of the program will begin on July 13, 2026 and will cover the remaining four local government areas of Sanga, Kagarko, Kachia and Kauru.
He said the vaccination will be carried out at primary health care centers in Gwantu, Fadan Ninzo, Jere, Sabon Sarki, Kachia, Damakasuwa and Kauru as well as Kagarko Local Government Secretariat.
The aide noted that residents across the senatorial district continued to express their gratitude to Senator Katung for bringing healthcare services closer to the people.
One of the beneficiaries in Manchok, Rebecca Danjuma, 43, said she decided to receive the vaccine because of the impact the disease had on people in her community.
“I came early to get vaccinated because I don’t want to die and leave my children. This is the first time we’ve seen this kind of free health care in our community,” she said.
He described the initiative as timely and called for the program to be sustained to allow more residents to benefit from preventative healthcare services.
