Governor Ahmed Aliyu, from the state of Sokoto, has warned political critics and commentators against converting security issues into a political tool, warning that such behavior could undermine efforts to restore peace throughout the State.
Aliyu gave the warning on Friday in the area of ​​the local government of silence while concluding his first round of condolence visits to the communities affected by the recent banded attacks.
“Security problems are very sensitive and fragile and, therefore, they must be handled more carefully,” said the governor.
He condemned those who used insecurity as a means of political score, describing the act as “dangerous and antipatriotic.”
Aliyu explained that his administration, in association with security agencies, had intensified operations in problematic areas and that the results were already becoming evident.
The governor also frowned at the activities of local informants who helped bandits, revealing plans to send a bill to the State Assembly Chamber that prescribed serious sanctions for anyone trapped collaborating with criminals.
“We will not bend our arms and see some people sabotage the collective peace of our people,” he warned, urging residents to support security agencies with credible intelligence.
Aliyu reaffirmed the continuous logistical and operational support of its administration for security agencies, ensuring that the government would maintain the effort until normality was completely restored.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by its media assistant, Abubakar Bawa, the governor, distributed ₦ 66 million and 165 bags of rice to the families of the 33 victims killed in the attack of silence, each afflicted family received ₦ 2 million and five bags of rice.
