The presidential candidate of the Labor Party (LP) in the general elections of 2023, Peter Obi, has asked Nigerian elites and political leaders to show deliberate support so that indigenous companies promote employment creation and national development.
Obi appealed on Saturday shortly after arriving from the United Kingdom aboard Lagos-London's flight from Air Peace.
“I just arrived from the United Kingdom this morning, in the Air Peace of Lagos to London. Now I have taken almost a dozen flights to or from London in this airline. I want to sincerely thank the administration and air peace staff for their professionalism, consistency and competition on this route,” he said.
The former governor of the state of Anambra urged the country's leadership to support local businesses, especially in high investment sectors such as transportation, where operating costs and competition remain high.
“Once again, I take this opportunity to attract Nigerian political elites and leaders to provide strong and deliberate support to indigenous companies. It is never easy to manage any business in our difficult environment, and much less sectors highly intensive in capital such as air and land transport, especially given the challenges of competitiveness and the growing operating costs.”
In addition, he emphasized the importance of protecting local undue pressure companies, saying: “Nigerian companies need our breath and sponsorship, not unnecessary harassment or intimidation. Supporting local businesses, particularly those that create mass employment, is essential for employment creation, economic growth and sustainable national development.”
