The former military administrator of the state of Kaduna, Colonel Abubakar Dangiwa Umar, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for considering him worthy of a national honor in recognition of his role in the fight for the validation of the elections and the affirmation of the mandate of Chief Mko Abiola.
Colonel Umar, however, asked President Tinubu to honor Sakoto Sultan, Sa'ad Abubakar; former Governor Olagensoye Oyinlola; and another 36 that participated in the fight of June 12 while they were in the army.
Tribune online He informs that the president, during an official visit to the state of Kaduna last week, admitted the omission of some important names in the list of national honors announced during his June 12 broadcast in a joint session of the National Assembly.
Tinubu, during Kaduna's visit, conferred the National Prize of the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) to Col Dangiwa Umar.
React to the National Prize for Honor in a statement made available to Tribune online Sunday, The retired military officer listed 38 other men and officers who described as unrecognized heroes that should be recognized for risking their lives and careers while actively participating in the June 12 struggle.
He said that although he played a main role as one of the leaders of that movement within the army and has received recognition, his contribution was, however, in no way greater than the 37 that have remained in anonymity.

“When the president asked me to inform me of his decision to consult the National Prize of the Federal Republic, CFR, due to my very announced role in the fight for the validation of the elections of June 12 and the statement of Mko Abiola, my mandate of Mko Abiola was for that reason only me and not all those insufficient heroes.
“Although I was one of the leaders of that movement within the army, my contribution was not at all greater than his. While I have been recognized and celebrated, including this national honor by the president, they have remained in anonymity,” says the statement.
Continuing, Colonel Umar said that CFR's recent honor has made him reveal the identity of other officers who actively contributed to the appearance of the current democratic dispensation, despite being in the army.
“Therefore, it is up to me to reveal the identity of these patriots, even if it is only to recognize and recommend their contributions to the appearance of the current democratic dispensation. The fact that the Chief Abiola, the alleged winner of the elections of June 12 won more than 80% of the votes of the Armed Forces, clearly demonstrated the contribution of the other members of the military.
“I must add that this list is in no way exhaustive. There are many more participants who have remained unknown to me, since they served under others. I apologize to all those whose names I must have lost. May God recognize and reward his sacrifice.
“The upper part of my list is my deputy in the center and the school of the armored body, Colonel Ma Garba, whose commitment was so strong that he continued with the execution of our plans after some of us were arrested, detained and merciful withdrawn in October 1993. The retired colonel added transmitting his acceptance of the national honor conferred to him, and added that “the prize will be doubly more significant if the democracy for which we all fight delivers the real dividends.”
“This can happen only if the leaders at all levels govern with the fear of God and according to the principles of democracy. It remains the hope and prayers of all patriots that nothing is done to derail this childhood democracy.
“To achieve the stability and progress of our democracy, leaders must prioritize good governance over politics for self -gear. The three coefficient branches of the government must operate independently while cooperating each other.
“A lasting lesson in the conduct of the officers and men is their decision to operate above the Skicancia, but to make its superior officers accounts. Unfortunately, this does not seem to have a positive impact on our political leaders. Sycophancy everywhere has become the scourge of selfless leadership and accounts. Sicofantes.
“Mr. President must lead a war against skofancia in all its forms. This should not allow exceptions, including the rapid growth trend to appoint and rename public institutions, facilities and other infrastructure after a president or state governor, while in office.
