An electrician, Lukman Tijani, 24, in Inisa, Odo-Otin local government area of Osun state, was detained Tuesday at the Ilesa prison by a magistrate’s court in Okuku for allegedly killing the wife of his client and two other children.
He is said to have stabbed the trio of Oyediran Sarah, 57, Adeniran Toyin, 15, and Onifade Favor, 6, to death after gaining access to their home.
It is also alleged that the defendant stabbed Oyediran Solomon with the intention of killing him.
Lukman is said to have armed himself with a cutlass, tongs and other dangerous weapons to steal Oyediran Solomon’s Wema Bank ATM card, with which he withdrew the sum of N300,000.
ASP Police Prosecutor Mustapha Tajudeen also alleged that, while attempting to escape from police custody, Lukman damaged the cell door and the handcuffs.
The crimes, according to the charge sheets, were contrary and punishable in sections 1 (1) (2) (A), (B), 319 (1), 320, 509 and 451 of the state penal code.
Tajudeen informed the court that the defendant committed the alleged crimes on July 24, 2020, around 11 p.m. in the Inisa Shekinah area of the state.
The defendant was tried before Magistrate O.B Adediwura on seven counts bordering on armed robbery, robbery, murder, intent to kill, attempted escape from custody, and unlawful damage to police property.
However, the court did not accept the defendant’s argument due to lack of jurisdiction.
Adediwura ordered that the accused be sent to the penitentiary while the file must be duplicated for the director of the Public Ministry.
