A former interim governor of the State of Ekiti, Tunji Odeyemi has become the new state president of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.
OdeyEMI was elected during the State Congress of the party held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital attended by delegates and interested parties of the party in the 16 areas of the local government. He was witnessed by security agencies
He scored 936 votes to defeat his challenger and a former state legal officer of the party, on Sunday Olowolafe, who obtained 290 votes.
Delivering its acceptance, Odeyemi praised the leaders and delegates of the party for the overwhelming support in leading the State Work Committee in the State, pointing out that the confidence repossed in it would not be betrayed.
He greeted the courage and commitment of all contestants towards the growth and progress of the PDP, requesting the support of all those interested in an attempt to reposition the party for success during the Government elections of 2026.
According to him, “my appearance today is not about Tunji Odeyemi. It is the PDP family in Ekiti claiming their legitimate place as the true voice of the people, the hope of the common man and the credible alternative for good governance. Therefore, we must put ourselves behind the divisions of the past and the focus in unity, discipline and lodization to the ideals of our party.
“Our State, Ekiti, needs a great need to rescue from bad administration, poverty and negligence. The PDP must assume this challenge and provide the leadership by which our people yearn for our people.
“As its president, I promise justice, inclusion and transparency in all our treatment. I will direct an open doors policy where all voices are heard, respect and value. Together with the State’s work committee, we will reposition PDP in Ekiti to win elections and deliver dividends of democracy to our people.
“Finally, I ask each member of our great party to close the ranks. Let’s talk with one voice, let’s go with a spirit and work with a purpose, return to PDP to the Government’s house, ado-ekiti and restore prosperity, dignity and hope for our people.”
