The House of Representatives has reiterated its commitment to solve the persistent crisis between the Dangote group and the Union of Nigerian Petroleum and Gas Workers (Nupeng).
President of the Chamber Petroleum Resources Committee (downstream), Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, gave the security of the closing ceremony of a high -level three -day retreat held in the state of Lagos.
He also revealed that the Committee would not leave any stone without moving in his investigation on the circumstances surrounding the OVH/NNPCL acquisition, the challenges faced by refinery owners to access the supply of crude oil, the problem of premium prices and the state of the refineries before and after closing.
According to him, the three -day retreat was carried out in preparation for the beginning of a large -scale investigation on the acquisition of NNPCL of the downstream assets of OVH Energy Marketing and the refinery update. This is in line with the resolution approved by the Chamber to reinvest the matter after the first report was rejected.
The withdrawal attended federal legislators, interested parties of the industry, union representatives and regulatory bodies, which met to address the growing concerns about the alleged monopolistic practices, the products of lower quality oil and the marginalization of key actors in the sector.
In his comments, Hon. Ugochinyere explained that the next investigation is different from the previous investigation carried out by the former Committee.

He emphasized the committee commitment of “delivering real reforms that guarantee efficiency, equity and competitiveness in all areas”, added that the withdrawal marked an inflection point in the legislative supervision of the sector.
He said that, as the investigation begins, the general public is invited to make contributions before legislators present their recommendations on the floor of the house.
He urged people with relevant information and presentations to send them to the Secretary of the Petroleum Committee of the House of Representatives (downstream).
In addition, he explained that one of the main causes of delay was the failure of certain interested parties in presenting vital documents. However, the Committee has resolved to proceed with or without those presentations and complete the allocation as ordered by the Chamber.
The Committee also promised to mediate between the Dangote and Nupeng group to avoid greater climbing and guarantee a fair representation of all interested parties. Reports of the subcommittees are expected in the coming weeks and will form the basis of possible legislative interventions.
The legislators also praised the leadership of the NMDPRA led by Alhaji Farouk, the Dangote refinery directed by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, owners of modular refinery and other key interested parties for their mass efforts and investments aimed at building a subsequent sector downstream guarantees energy safety for Nigeria.
Excmo Ugochinyere expressed optimism that the result of retirement would restructure the downstream oil scene and restore confidence in regulatory governance as Nigeria sails through its energy transition and economic recovery.
