The URHOBO Political Movement, UPM, has warned against what it described as measures to tarnish the image of Cross River State Resident Election Commissioner, Mr. Mike Igini.

He also expressed confidence in the ability of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct free and fair elections in Edo state. The sociocultural group spoke in the context of an allegation that Igini allegedly met with some people in Benin to manipulate the upcoming gubernatorial elections in the state.

A statement by Obiuwevbi Ominimini and David Ekuetafia, the group’s president and secretary respectively, urged those who made the complaint to retract their statement.

The statement says: “Normally, UPM would not have responded to these false accusations since the organization is not an agent of the Independent National Electoral Commission or a body involved in the management of electoral matters.”

However, as a body dedicated to promoting the rule of law, transparency, good governance and the fight against corruption, we have an obligation to fight for what is right and against oppression, especially with racial or ethnic overtones.

Today, under the Independent National Electoral Commission under the able and courageous leadership of Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Mike Igini is one of the leading credible voices. He currently serves as the Resident Election Commissioner in the state of Akwa Ibom. The UPM and the entire Urhobo career are proud of their impeccable career and activity in the nation’s electoral body.

Despite the fact that Mike Igini has already instructed his legal representatives to write to those who made the complaint for a retraction of the defamatory publications and also to present an unreserved apology or face legal action, the Urhobo Political Movement still frowns frowning seriously at the unprovoked invasion. of the personal honor and integrity of a good gentleman like Mike Igini. ”
