Former BBC DJ Tim Westwood appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, facing charges of rape, sexual assault and indecent assault involving seven women.
The 68-year-old confirmed his name, date of birth and address during the brief hearing, but was not required to enter a plea.
He was granted conditional bail and ordered not to contact prosecution witnesses. The case has been adjourned until December 8, when it will be heard at Southwark Crown Court, central London.
The 15 charges include four counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and nine counts of indecent assault. Some relate to alleged incidents at BBC studios in the 1990s, while others cover hotels, music festivals and venues in London and Gloucestershire.
The alleged crimes include indecent assault on a 17-year-old girl in Fulham in 1983, rape and indecent assault on women aged 17 to 18 in the 1990s and early 2000s, and sexual assaults on women in their 20s between 2010 and 2016.
Tim, who returned to the UK from Nigeria last week, had previously said he “strongly denies all allegations of inappropriate behaviour”.
He began his radio career locally before joining Capital Radio and then presenting BBC Radio 1’s first rap show in 1994. He left the BBC in 2013 after 20 years and most recently presented shows on Capital Xtra until April 2022.
