Set state congresses for January 9
They are acting like dying horses, the Turaki camp.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Mohammed Abdulrahman, on Thursday set January 9, 2026 as the start date of party congresses in all states of the country.
The revelation was made in Abuja after a meeting of the Interim National Committee chaired by Abdulrahman.
The committee said plans leading up to the party’s national convention will be released after the state congresses.
The camp’s National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Junguda Mohammed, who read the meeting statement at a press conference, also stated that the PDP had ratified the dissolution of state working committees in 14 states.
The affected states are Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano and Lagos.
According to him, provisional committees will be formed to supervise the affairs of the party in these federal states pending the outcome of the next congresses.
The side, which is backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, held the meeting barely 24 hours after the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) concluded its consultations with PDP stakeholders as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Turaki leadership, which emerged from the November 15 Ibadan convention, had met former governors, former ministers, state chairmen, former NWC members and National Assembly groups to discuss the future of the party.
But on Thursday, Wike’s camp warned the Turaki-led NWC to stop boasting as PDP leader.
The statement read in part: “The National Interim Committee resolved to tell the teeming members of our party and the general public that the PDP remains strong and indivisible.
“There is only one genuine and legitimate PDP, headed by Honorable Abdulrahman Mohammed.
“Therefore, the National Interim Committee warns anyone who brings the party’s image into disrepute to refrain from doing so immediately.
“It is important to let the public know that claims circulating in the media that INEC has accepted the executive committee led by Turaki are false.
“Therefore, we challenge Turaki to produce the code with which he uploaded his exco to the INEC portal!”
The camp expanded the number of members of the surveillance committee.
The new appointments are Professor Adenike Ogunse (Women Leaders); Engineer Deji Dohati (Deputy National Secretary); Senator Olaka Ogunwu (Treasurer); Honorable Jungu Haruna Mohammed (National Publicity Secretary); and Ambassador Ibrahim Bala-Aboki (Youth Leader).
However, in a swift reaction, the Turaki-led NWC described the faction as a “dying horse” desperate to hold on to anything it could get its hands on.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Turaki-led PDP group, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said that instead of “looking for ways to destroy the PDP”, the Abdulrahman-led camp should strive to function as the opposition party it should be.
“Their position is like the last kick of a dying horse. Our challenge to them is to muster the courage to function as an opposition party.
“They should ask the APC-led federal government to provide good governance to Nigerians. That is the job of the opposition,” Ememobong added.
