The Government of the State of Niger has announced the recovery of two more bodies of the tragic incident of the flood that occurred in the area of the state of the local government of Mokwa on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
The Secretary of the State Government, (SSG) Alhaji Abubakar Usman declared this on Sunday in a press release signed personally for him and made available to journalists in Minna.
He pointed out that the devastating flood had resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of several houses and properties worth millions of Naira with 151 bodies already recovered and buried.
He said: “As of today, on Sunday, June 1, 2025, the search and recovery operations have led to the discovery of two additional bodies, which carries the number of deaths confirmed to 153”.
Remember that this unfortunate disaster has affected numerous homes and individuals, and the government remains firm in its commitment to support families and affected communities.
The SSG emphasized that the Emergency Management Agency of the State of Niger (NSMA), in collaboration with local authorities and volunteers, continues to work 24 hours to provide relief to affected people.
“While we share the pain of each family that has been affected, we urge the members of the public to stay quiet and sensitive in their communications, particularly on social networks and other platforms.
“This is a moment of mourning and collective pain for us as a state, since the dissemination of not verified or sensational information only adds to the pain and confusion that is already being experienced,” said Abubakar.
The SSG added that the government asks all citizens to cooperate with the relevant authorities and that they trust the ongoing response efforts.
“We also appeal to the awareness of all nigerlites to prioritize the unit, compassion and objective reports during this challenging moment, said the SSG.
He prayed that the souls of those who died rest in peace and that the afflicted families have the strength of supporting the loss.
