The United Kingdom Police arrested about 300 people on Saturday during a protest in downtown London against the prohibition of the Government of the Pro-Palestinian group, Palestine Action.

The organization was banned in July under the United Kingdom’s anti -terrorism legislation after some of its members broke into a real air force base and damaged military planes.

The prohibition places it in the same category as Al-Qaeda and ISIS, so it is a crime to support or belong to the group, with sanctions of up to 14 years in prison.

Saturday’s demonstration attracted hundreds of protesters near Parliament, many of the banners that carry launks that said: “I oppose the genocide. I support Palestine’s action.”

According to the Metropolitan Police, the detainees faced positions ranging from assault officers to show support for a prohibited organization. The force said that its officers endured “an exceptional level of abuse that includes blows, kicks, spit, be launched and verbal insults.”

Palestine Action has long accused the British government of complicity in the “war crimes” “in Gaza, often pointing to defense companies based in the United Kingdom with ties with Israel. The authorities claim that the group has caused millions of pounds in criminal damage.

More than 500 supporters of Palestine Action, many over 60 years were arrested in a single day last month. Since then, more than 100 people have been charged for showing support.

While human rights organizations have condemned prohibition as excessive and a threat to freedom of expression, the government argues that it does not avoid other forms of prolastine protest.
