A visiting US lawmaker praised his recent engagement with Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, describing the talks as “productive and positive”, while praising the federal government for the rescue of kidnapped Catholic schoolchildren, an outcome he said demonstrated Nigeria’s strengthened response to insecurity.

He thanked the administration of President Bola Tinubu for its handling of the recent school kidnapping case, saying: “I want to thank the Nigerian government and @officialABAT for rescuing 100 innocent and precious children from Catholic schools.
“This is a positive demonstration of the government’s growing response to the security situation and shows its commitment to the emergency declaration presented by President Tinubu.”
The US lawmaker noted that Washington’s concerns were received seriously, adding that “the United States’ sense of urgency about our concerns was received positively.
“I feel that a cooperative security framework is in sight. The joint task force now established between Nigeria and the United States is a great example.”
He said Nigeria had shown “openness and willingness” to partner with the United States to address critical security challenges, but stressed that that openness must translate into tangible results.
“There is still a lot of work to do, but things are going in the right direction. I look forward to the next steps with the Nigerian government and continued open dialogue,” he wrote.
