USA.: Trump threatens 200% of the EU alcoholic products rate

Must Read

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, intensified commercial tensions on Thursday by threatening a 200% tariff on the champagne and other alcoholic beverages of the European Union.

His warning occurred in response to the EU decision to impose tariffs on US products worth $ 28 billion, including a 50% rate on whiskey. The EU movement previously followed US tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

Trump asked the EU to eliminate its tariff on whiskey, stating that the United States would “place” a rate of EU alcohol products if the measure remained in its place.

He criticized the EU, describing it as “one of the demanding and most abusive tariffs in the world.”

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, defended the position of the EU, saying that “it must act to protect consumers and businesses.”

These recent developments have shaken financial markets, with futures of shares that rise on Thursday morning.

The S&P 500 and Nasdaq lost some of their profits since the previous day, while Dow Jones industrial average continued their decrease as of Wednesday.
