President-elect of Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi, Eng. Osborn Nweze Umahi has pledged to reject his salary and benefits during his tenure, saying that they will instead be donated to the people of the local government.
The 28-year-old emerged as Ohaozara chairman following Saturday’s local government elections in the state.
Umahi contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and emerged as the party’s candidate earlier this year before winning the council elections.

Speaking after his victory, Umahi’s son said his decision to forgo his salary was driven by his desire to serve the people rather than seeking personal financial gain.
Umahi’s son said; “I will not accept any salary or allowance as president of Ohaozara LGA.
“I come to serve and not to get rich.”
He promised to focus his administration on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, economic opportunities and improving service delivery in Ohaozara communities.
Umahi is the son of the Minister of Public Works and former Governor of Ebonyi State, Senator David Umahi.
The young Umahi had presented himself, during his campaign, as a new generation politician who sought to combine his experience in the private sector with public sector administration..
