… While I left Akure celebrates the tenth anniversary on the throne
Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to respect and support traditional institutions throughout the country.
Shettima, who announced this during a colloquium that was held to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Coronation of the Akureland, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, recognized the vital role played by traditional institutions in the development and unity of the nation.
Shetima, represented by his special advisor on economic matters, Dr. Tope Fasua, said that traditional rulers serve as custodians of culture, peace and moral values, which makes them critical interested parties in the country's development agenda.
“The federal government recognizes the invaluable contributions of real parents to preserve peace, promote unity and guide our young people,
“His age in conflict resolution and the construction of the community is still as relevant today as always,” said Shetima
He praised Oba Aladelusi for his exemplary leadership during the last decade, and requested greater collaboration between traditional institutions and government structures to achieve sustainable national growth.
Speaking, the governor of the State of Ondo, Seyi Makinde, also advocated a constitutional role for the monarchs, emphasizing their importance in governance and community development.
Makinde, while talking about the issue: “The role of the traditional institutions of Nigeria in the construction of the nation: impediments, impacts and perspectives”, the governor of the state of Oyo, Seyi Makinde, emphasized the need to give constitutional recognition to traditional institutions.
According to Makinde, traditional rulers are not relics of the past but pillars of legitimacy and identity whose influence on the base level remains unmatched.
Makinde said: “Long before the modern administrative systems of Nigeria, traditional rulers confirmed justice, values and community security.
“They continue to trust people, and any effort for the construction of the nation that neglects them will surely fall short.”
According to Makinde, who said that the strengthening of traditional institutions goes beyond preserving culture is a strategic approach to governance.
He cited the success of the state of Oyo in the integration of traditional leaders in their framework of governance as a model that is worth emulating.
He stressed that the strength of a nation is found not only in its resources but also in the effectiveness and integrity of its institutions.
Akure's Deji, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, in his comments, expressed his governor to Governor Makinde and all the dignitaries present, noting that traditional rulers have a crucial role in the development of Nigeria.
He advocated constitutional reforms to empower traditional institutions, emphasizing their relevance in promoting unity and community development.
The monarch also praised the people of Akure and the government of the State of Ondo for its unwavering support during its 10 -year reign, noting that the city has joined under its leadership.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by the Secretary of the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, congratulated Deji for his anniversary milestone.
He described the reign of the monarch as shocking, noting that he has introduced significant progress and development for the kingdom of Akure.
