The alumni of the Faculty of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of Ibadan, “85, have asked the relevant interested parties, including students, who bring together the government in their efforts to renew the health sector.
It was stated that the sector faces several challenges that make it difficult for the general public to evaluate the basic medical facilities.
The medical experts who attended the student's day and the Legacy sharing as part of the activities that mark the 40th anniversary and meetings of the Faculty of Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of “85 held at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan on Monday, argued that the migration of Nigerian trained personnel abroad in search of more ecological pastures is taking its lunch in the sector.
They added that, apart from the migration of the staff, most hospitals could not boast the necessary equipment that is needed for medical tasks, therefore, the reason why people travel abroad through Medicare.
However, they affirmed that as long as they cannot discourage the trained personnel to look for more green pastures abroad, they must also give back to society with the provision of necessary assistance to their alma mater.
The president of the Local Organizing Committee and Executive Director of the Tolu Hospital and the Central Hospital of Ibadan, Dr. Abib Olamitoyo, in a secondary interview with the journalists, said that as a class of 85 they have decided not only to give back to the university but also to society in general
He said: “We are former students. We have returned, to give back to the next generations, find a way to gather and leave a better mark of what we have done in the past to the university, to the students and the community where we once live as students.
In the state of the health sector in the country, he said: “I do not want to be a politician, but I can say that the decrease is not limited to the medical profession.
“Nigeria has witnessed a tremendous rhythm in the absence of thorough planning, which has led to a starry effect that has stagnated progress in all the cadres of the economy, which has turned the country into a very bad example of a nation.
“Nigeria is a country that runs without a vision. Many people have perished for this lack of vision.”
On the issue of brain leakage, he presented: “People want better living conditions. The origin of brain leakage is nothing more than a poor economy, poorly managed financial resources.
“When the medical staff who arrived at school and spent six years more two years in the house and the NYSC leave and discover that they cannot even raise a family, and much less send their children to good schools and are necessary in another place where they can have compensation for the years and pains they have had. I think their movement is legitimate.”
In addition, the main speaker, Tony Rapu, who folds as president, a trustee Board, Freedom Foundation warned students and other people who attended to take advantage of the opportunities they have.
In his direction entitled: 'Seasons of Life, start strong, stay firm, shine', Rapu warned students who noticed that there are three seasons in life.
He said: “There are three seasons of life; morning, afternoon and afternoon. Each of this season requires a certain attitude, places a unique demand and a unique purpose for our lives.
“There are certain things that you have to do in the morning, the afternoon and night of life. As students, in the morning, you must show the seed of life, discipline and empathy of character, hard work and studies.”
In his speech, the provost, College of Medicine, Prof. de Ogundiran, praised the contribution of the class of 85 to the growth of the health sector in the country and abroad.
He argued that the set has produced notable leaders who have been of tremendous assistance for the Faculty of Medicine.
