The Alliance of the Yoruba Democratic Movement (AYDM), a coalition of 130 Pan-Yoruba and Itsekiri groups, has condemned in solid terms the recent massacre of more than 200 innocent citizens in Yelewata, area of ​​the local government of GEMA of the state of Benue, asking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take definitive and decisive measures to stop the carnage in the state.
The coalition made the call over the weekend in a statement signed by its general secretary, Comrade Popoola Ajayi, a copy of which it was made available to journalists in Lagos, noting that the chain of attacks against Benue and the middle belt region were destined to return to the late Jihad of 1804 led by Fulani.
This was just when Aydm expressed full support and solidarity with the people of the middle belt, revealing their plans to visit Benue at the end of June. Unfortunately, he noticed that southwest people shared a common destination with Benue and all states currently under the attacks of extremists, since no less than 50 Yorubas people living in the medium belt had been killed in violence induced by terrorists.
“The AyDM condemns in strong terms the recent massacre of more than 200 innocent citizens in Yelewata, the area of ​​the local government of the state of Benue, between June 13 and 14 and 2025. This atrocity marks a new bass in the series of attacks that are carried out a funded network of Fulani Militias, which continue to disguise themselves from several groups such as Marmuda, Lakurawa.
“Terrorists use kidnapping, theft of banks, sale of human parts and the forceful occupation of indigenous lands in a great plot to fight a psychological war against people before a planned national yihad,” said the coalition.
Aydm claimed that the attackers were determined to break the will of Benue and Plateau to relieve the advance towards southern Nigeria, but quickly assured that the southwest people were ready to support their shoulder with their shoulders in the battles that advances.
The coalition, while the sad development condemned even more, said that they did not have a Fulani as the current president of Nigeria was being used as justification to drag the country to war, claiming that the armed shepherds were, at present, entrenched by the tropical and forest homelands of the Nigerian indigenous peoples, hoping to attack the least attention.
According to him, chaos is already extended to other parts of the northern center region, southeast and southwest, describing the situation as an imminent national disaster.
He accused a section of Fulani's leadership of pursuing the agenda of the age of political domination and monitoring of land, sadly remembering that since 2015, communities in Nasarawa, Plateau and the states of Benue, including Agatu, logo, katsina-lade, Gwer East and the West, had been attacked without problems.
“More than 4,000 lives have been lost, with properties worth thousands of millions.
Aydm warned that the growing audacity of militias cannot be separated from political calculations before the general elections of 2027, saying that there was a deliberate and dangerous accumulation by created interests that were assembling politics as a tool for electoral manipulation and territorial conquest.
“President Tinubu must go beyond the usual ritual of issuing ineffective statements and now he must match the words with a concrete action. The time of acting is now, before the whole country is assumed by the forces bent in their disintegration,” said the coalition.
AYDM, while expressing deep condolences to the families of the victims in Yelewata and in other affected communities, also asked the Nigerian security agencies that persecute international financial and sponsors of these terrorist networks and process people who help and incite these crimes.
In addition, he strongly called the President Tinubu and the National Assembly that immediately initiates the urgent restructuring of Nigeria to guarantee true federalism and restore the autonomy of the Federant Units, saying that this was the only sustainable path towards peace, equity and national stability.
“Only a restructured Nigeria where each region can protect their land and their people, control their resources and govern in line with their values ​​and aspirations can end this madness,” said Aydm.
