The president of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has told the national president of the Congress of all the progressives (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, to comfort himself in the fact that his late mother, Mama Lydia Yilwatda Goshwe, chose the right time to die.

Akpabio declared this on Saturday at the Burial Service of Mama Lydia in Jos, the capital of the state of Plateau.

Mama Lydia, mother of the national president of APC, died in August at the age of 83.

His burial attended senior government officials, political leaders and dignitaries throughout the country.

In his condolence message, Akpabio said that the family should find comfort in the legacy that Mama Lydia left behind and the impact he had on the lives of others.

He said: “To our dear mom, goodbye of all of us. Goodbye of Nigeria. To our national president, comforting himself knowing that his mother chose the right time to leave, a moment when his legacy continues to speak through you and all the lives he touched.”

The president of the Senate also used the occasion to congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for unifying and gathering people of different religions, regions and political divisions.

Akpabio declared: “All the former governors of the State of Plateau are here today, regardless of the political party. The governor of the State of Plateau, who works in close collaboration with our national president, has welcomed him hotly, and the people of Plateau have shown a tremendous affection and emotion in his visit.

“As a politician, I observed the participation from the airport to this place; thousands of citizens of the plateau lined up in the streets, greeting and cheering. That only speaks stronger than any words: Mr. President, you have touched the hearts of the people of the plateau.

“This service today is a powerful reflection of unity, faith and leadership, and shows that God has really registered his presence.”
