The Zamfara State Government has distributed cholera intervention drugs and medical consumables worth more than £100 million across the state’s 14 local government areas (LGAs) as part of its effort to contain the spread of the disease.
The formal distribution exercise was carried out at the Drugs and Medical Consumables Agency (DMCA) store in Samaru Gusau by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun.
Dr Maradun stated that the distribution represented the state government’s rapid response to the cholera outbreak, highlighting that all items were provided free of charge.
He tasked LGA teams with ensuring prudent use of the products and issued a strong warning that anyone caught selling the drugs would face the full wrath of the law.
He further urged healthcare workers involved in the process to maintain transparency and accountability, and asked community members to report any misconduct related to misuse or diversion of medications.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Drugs and Medical Consumables Agency (DMCA), pharmacist Sani Bello, expressed his deep gratitude to the state governor.
Honorable. Bello Jabaka, Chairman of Maru Local Government Area, commended the Health Commissioner for her commitment and reiterated his appreciation for Governor Lawal’s continued support to the residents of the state.
He assured that medicines and medical supplies, including items such as Ringer’s lactate, saline dextrose, normal saline, cannulas, IVF kits, syringes, dressings and antibiotics, will be distributed as planned and used judiciously to combat cholera in all affected areas.
