The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, has responded to the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit Moscow for peace conversations about the current war of Russia-Ukraine.

According to the Russian government, President Putin is preparing to receive the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Moscow.

Presidential Assistant Dmitry Peskov confirmed the meeting during an interview with Tass at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on Friday.

The Kremlin spokesman said that Putin’s invitation to the Ukrainian leader was “to speak, not surrender.”

Peskov said the efforts to resolve the 42 -month conflict are ongoing, but refused to predict the result. He quoted Putin saying: “There is light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Russian government says it aims to achieve its objectives in Ukraine through peaceful media, but will continue its special military operation if a truce is not reached.

When asked about a possible monitoring conversation between President Putin and President Donald Trump after his meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, Peskov said: “There are still no developments.”

He also talked about relations between the United States and Russia, saying that “the process of getting our relations from complete paralysis will take time.” Peskov added that “a lot of damage to the architecture” of the ties of both countries has been done, referring to years of diplomatic confrontation under the previous administration of the United States.

Responding to the open invitation during a joint press conference with French president Emmanuel Macron after the coalition of the meeting willing, Zelensky said he can only be invited when Russia wants any meeting.

Speaking about the coalition meeting in the midst of a continuous effort for peace in Ukraine, Zelensky said that the meeting is necessary and “is not of desire, but a real need.” He added that he supports any format for conversations, trilateral or bilateral, but believes that Russia is trying to delay it.

“The meeting is necessary, it is not about desire, but it is necessary. We support it in any format: both trilateral and bilateral. I think Russia is doing everything to delay it. Our US partners told us that Putin invited me to Moscow. I think when they want there to be no meetings, then you should invite me,” Zelensky said.
