The flags in the United States and Texas fly in the middle of the middle of Sunday in recognition of the Memorial Day of the Peace Officers.
The day honors the agents of the law who lost their lives in the fulfillment of duty, including those who died in 2024.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, issued a statement earlier this week marking the occasion.
“This week and always, we honor the brave men and women who serve in the application of the law and memorize those who sacrificed their lives defending the thin blue line,” Trump said.
He also criticized the previous administration, claiming that he made surveillance more difficult.
“A nation in chaos ceases to be a citadel of freedom. Tragically, the previous administration allowed illegality to permeate our country … its reckless and soft policies of crimes emboldened criminals and thugs … they infused fear; and in danger public confidence.
“I stay in a firm solidarity with those who defend our freedoms and the families that love and support them.
“We pray for those who cry at the fall and promise that their lives, legacies and sacrifices will be remembered forever by our grateful nation,” Trump added.
Although Trump reaffirmed on May 15 as on the day of the Memorials of the peace officers, the observance has existed since 1962, when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation that established it. The week surrounding the day is also recognized as the National Police Week.
Every year, officers meet in Washington, DC, to honor the murdered or disabled while they are service.
Until now in 2024, 17 law agents in Texas have died in the fulfillment of duty.
The causes of these deaths include shots, vehicle accidents, assaults and health problems related to duty, highlighting the risks faced by officers while serving their communities.
Among the lost were Deputy Ronald Bates of Harris County, who died in an accident on February 10; The officer Kyle Hicks of Corpus Christi, shot by April 24; Soldier Kevin RamÃrez-Vásquez de la Road Patrol of Texas, hit by a vehicle on September 24; The officer Jacob Candanoza de Terrell, also shot by December 8; and the detention officer Isaiah Bias from Ellis County, who died in assault on December 16.
These names represent only some of those who give their lives while serving.
The flags in the United States fly in the middle of the specific national observances, which include: the day of the fallen (until noon), day of the fallen of the peace officers, Patriot Day (September 11), day of the memory of Pearl Harbor (December 7), National Fire Memorial Day.
The flags are also reduced to the death of high -ranking federal or state officials. For example: 30 days for a current or previous president, 10 days for the Vice President, the President of the Justice or the President of the House of Representatives.
From death to the burial of the judges of the Supreme Court, the members of the Cabinet and the leaders of the Congress.
Two days for the members of Congress in their respective states or districts.
The president can also reduce the flag for national tragedies or to honor foreign dignitaries.
