Two months after he was accused as elected vice president of the Shira Local Governing Council in Bauchi, Hon. Adamu Usman Bamaraya has filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court of the State of Bauchi that questions his removal of the position.
Adamu Bamaraya, who is the plaintiff of the lawsuit, declared that the Facebook publication contained a document entitled “Resolution to eliminate the President of the Local Governing Council of Shira (Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli) and vice president (Hon. Adamu Usman) of the office, signed by the representative counselor and Hon. Hon. Abdullahi Wada.
The allegedly retired vice president, the Hon. Adamu Usman Bamaraya told the presses in Bauchi on Friday that he was never summoned to appear at any investigation panel, committee or court, nor was he given any opportunity to defend himself against any accusation as required by section 20 (7) of the Law of the Local Government and Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution.
Adamu Bamaraya explained that he only heard about the elimination of the former president of the Local Government of Shira, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli for reasons that are not known better, when it was as a result he also asked to resign from the position by those interested in the local government of Shira.
However, Adamu Bamaraya explained that he frustrated the efforts of the interested parties that wanted to force him to give up his seat, and as a result of his refusal to resign, the interested parties through the Divisional Police officer of Shira (DPO) arrested him and took him to a correctional center where he spent seven days without trial before he was rescued.
To his surprise, he later learned that a partial election had been scheduled for May 24, 2025, to occupy the positions of President and Vice President.
In response to the partial election, Adamu Bamaraya filed a lawsuit in search of an immediate unemployment of the partial elections planned by the Independent Electoral Commission of the State of Bauchi (Basiec), its reinstatement as vice president of Shira Lga, and the punishment of the person who did it and jailed for a week to reject the signature of a reset letter, among another demand.
The defendants who appear in the lawsuit include the local Governing Council of Shira, the Chamber of the Bauchi State Assembly, the Independent Electoral Commission of the State of Bauchi (Basiec) and all the councilors representing Shira Lga.
He recalled that on March 3, 2025, the Legislative Council of the Local Government of Shira eliminated the President, the Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli, and his attachment, Hon. Usman Adamu, citing accusations of gross misconduct, bad financial management, abandonment of duty and abuse of office.
In line with this, the Independent Electoral Commission of the State of Bauchi (Basiec) has scheduled partial elections for May 24, 2025 to fill the vacancies.
The president of Basiec, Ahmed Makama, declared that the commission received an official communication that vacancies declared, which caused his legal obligation to hold elections within 14 days.
“We received a correspondence informing us that there is a vacancy in the offices of the president and vice president of the local government of Shira. As a commission, we have the duty to carry out an election to fill those vacancies,” said Ahmed Makama.
He pointed out that the Electoral Law of the State of Bauchi (2008) demands that partial elections must be held within 14 days once a vacancy is officially declared.
