The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) has deplored a deadly wave of Russian missiles and drone strikes that, according to reports, killed at least 13 civilians and injured another 65.

HRMMU, in a statement on Sunday, warned that the attack underlines the serious risks of using powerful explosive weapons in populated areas.

According to the UN mission, the nighttime assault from Saturday to Sunday, one of the largest of its kind from the large -scale invasion of Russia in February 2022, resulted in casualties and damage to households and infrastructure in 10 regions of Ukraine, including the capital, kyiv.

At least three children were among those killed, and nine children were reported injured. The mission is currently working to verify the total scope of the victims and the broader impact of the attack.

“With at least 78 reported people killed or injured throughout the country, the attack last night tragically demonstrates the persistent fatal risk for civilians to use powerful weapons in urban areas, including those who are far from the first line,” said Danielle Bell, Head HRMMU.

“It is another addition to the amazing human cost that this war continues to inflict civilians, with more families throughout the country that now cry their losses.”

Matthias Schmale, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine, also expressed a deep concern for civil suffering.

“I am horrified that once again, civilians, including children, have died in the mass attacks last night,” he said in a statement published on the social media platform X.

“In all Ukraine, no place is sure. Households and civil infrastructure were beaten. Grateful to humanitarian NGOs and state services that immediately support affected people. Civilians should never be an objective.”

The Ukrainian authorities reported that the Russian armed forces launched at least 367 missiles and shit shit during the night, in a coordinated attack with air, sea and land systems.

The strike followed a similar assault the night before, which had mainly attacked the kyiv region.

HRMMU pointed out that the use of long -range weapons in urban areas has been an important civil casual driver in March and April.

While the number of victims in May had been somewhat lower than in April before the last attack, the toll of the strikes of this weekend will be added to the monthly figures.
