The Presidency has clarified that President Bola Tinubu will select his formula partner for the 2027 presidential elections only after formally accepting the nomination of the Congress of all progressive (APC) during his convention in 2026.
Bayo Onanuga, special advisor to the president on information and strategy, revealed this in a recent interview with Daily Trust.

“When I read the report, I discarded it as a problem. In a presidential system, the candidate emerges and selects a formula partner.
“That is what happened under Buhari: he was first nominated and then chose his formula partner. You don't do both at the same time.
“Once INEC publishes the calendar, the party convention will remain, and if the president is nominated again, he will choose his formula partner,” he explained.
As the 2027 presidential elections approach, the speculation about the plans of President Bola Tinubu for his formula partner has been abundant, with several interested parties and interest groups within the Congress of all progressives (APC) that weigh on the matter.
However, the presidency has now provided clarity in the timeline for the selection of Tinubu day couple, which ends speculation.
With this development, the approach changes to the APC Convention in 2026, where the nomination of President Tinubu will prepare the scenario for his choice of formula partner.
Meanwhile, Chief Oliver Okpala, a special senior assistant of public lighting to the national president of the Congress of all progressives (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has strongly condemned what he described as an attempt to assault its director during the match meeting by the parts of the game in the state of Gombe during the weekend.
In a statement issued on Monday, Okpala said the incident, which involved a group of rebel individuals who allegedly addressed to the national president of APC, was not only irresponsible but a serious threat to democracy and internal cohesion of the party.
“There is currently no space for violence in Nigeria's political space. Party members should resort to the civilized principle of political decency, decorum and behavior in their political activities in the country,” said Okpala.
