Police Inspector, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, is currently in Algiers, Algeria, for the 13th Meeting of the Aphripol Steering Committee, which will take place from July 7 to 8, 2025.
This was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Monday by the Public Relations Officer, Police Assistant Commissioner (ACP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
According to the statement, the Summit is being attended by police chiefs, senior executives of the law and interested parties of continental security to address the growing complexities of terrorism, organized crime and violent extremism in Africa.
He explained that IGP EGBETOKUN is attending its double capacity as Chief of Police of Nigeria and the current president of the Police Heads Committee of Western Africa (WAPCCO), reaffirming Nigeria's leadership in continental security cooperation and the mitigation of regional threats.
In addition, he explained that the two -day session would submit critical reports, including a report on the current situation of transnational organized crime (TOC) throughout the continent; Updates on the implementation and operationalization of the AFSECOM communication system; and progress in the development of Afripol strategies in counter-terrorism (CT) and TOC.
He added that the Summit would also cover the presentations on the current Aphripol reform process, including commitments to the policies of the UA and the Member States, and the sketch preparations for the next meeting of the Steering Committee 14 and the 5th General Assembly of Africol.
The statement also added that IGP EGBETOKUN reaffirmed Nigeria's strong commitment to dismantle criminal networks by advancing in the strategies for the application of collaborative law, intelligence exchange and joint security operations.
According to him, “IGP EGBETOKUN emphasizes the importance of modern technology, integrated communication platforms and inter -institutional working groups as fundamental to respond to cross -border threats.
“The PGI also demands a deeper legal harmonization, a better training of officers and an improved regional interoperability to effectively combat terrorism, cyber crime, trafficking and organized criminal networks, while reiterating that the battle against Toc cannot be won in isolation, but through a unified purpose, coordinated action and strategic cooperation.”
He added that among the attendees at the meeting are the general director of National Security Algerina, Ali Badaui; Members of the Police Heads Committee of Central Africa (CAPCCO); Members of the Police Chiefs Cooperation of Eastern Africa (EAPCCO); other regional police organizations; as well as other police chiefs.

The statement reaffirmed that Nigeria's police force remains committed to supporting the Afipol mission and will continue to work with regional and international partners to promote peace, security and a safe Africa.
The PPE reformulated the resolution of the force to actively contribute to multilateral efforts aimed at safeguarding communities and strengthening the collective security infrastructure of Africa, the statement added.
