The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Chapter of the State of Ekiti, has rejected the circular published by the Federal Government on the upward review proposal of assignments for health workers.
The union asked the government to withdraw the circular immediately, before the expiration of the 21 -day ultimatum issued by the national body or the industrial risk of risk.
The president of the Ekiti State Association, Dr. IFEDAYO OREYEMI, revealed this while he addressed journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
The federal government had issued a circular through the National Salary, Income and Salary Commission on June 27, 2025, with SWC/S/04/S.218/11/646 reference, with respect to the alleged ascending review of the assignments.
According to Dr. Oreyemi, circular is a flagrant violation of the previous collective bargaining agreements (CBA), which emphasized the existence of relativity in the remuneration of doctors compared to other health workers.
He pointed out that the government's action clearly demonstrated its insensitivity and hypocrisy by not maintaining the terms previously agreed with the Nigerian medical association.
In addition to demanding the withdrawal of the circular, the president described eighteen key demands that must be met to avoid the imminent attack.

According to him, “the demands include the immediate withdrawal of the circular in the review of the assignments for medical/dental officers in the Federal Public Service dated June 27, 2025; immediate correction of the consequent consequent adjustments in line with the CBA of 2001, 2009 and 2014;
“Immediate correction of the relativity agreed between confess and conhes, the fulfillment of relativity in all the professional assignments contained in the CBA of 2001, particularly with respect to the assignments of duty of calls, and the payment of all accumulated tasks;
“Immediate payment of the Medical Residence Training Fund (MRTF) for 2025 and an ascending review of the MRTF to reflect the current economic realities; and the immediate call of the negotiations of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) of long data (CBA) on degradation.
“Others include the immediate release of a circular on clinical duty and other assignments for honorary consultants as agreed in January 2024;
“The implementation of scarce skills assignments for medical consultants; approval of specialized assignments for all doctors;
“Approval of excess workload allocations for all doctors; CBA 2021 compliance on risk allocation; among others.”
Oreyemi also condemned a recent statement made by former president of former President Muhammadu Buhari, in which he claimed that his late director would have died a long time ago if it was in Nigeria. Oreyemi described the comment as reckless.
“Medicine is universal, and Nigerian doctors are among the best doctors and surgeons anywhere in the world. Our politicians should strive to invest in the country's health sector, as is done in countries that frequently run to obtain medical assistance,” said the president of the NMA.
