The elders of the Oke-Gun area of the state of Oyo have reformulated the need for the area to produce the next state governor in the interest of equity, equity and justice.
They renewed the lawsuit at a meeting held at the Bodija Residence of the President of the Oke-Gun’s Elderly Council (OCE), Otunba Bamidele Dada, Oon, who is a former Minister of State for Agriculture.
His position was contained in a statement issued at the end of the meeting signed by Comrade Jare Ajayi and Prince Remi Adegbola.
They pointed out that no person from Oke-Gun’s extraction has served as Governor of the State since the independence of Nigeria in 1960 and asked that deliberate efforts be remedied the situation.
They were revasted for the rotation of the position of governor in the state between the seven geopolitical zones in the state: the Oke-Gun 1 and II, Oyo, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa and Ibadan (city and less city).
The leaders said the disposition of rotation should begin from the 2037 elections, with Oke-Gun taking the first shot.
They reiterated their previous defense for the Redelimitation of the current Senatorial District of Oyo North in such a way that the 10 areas of the local government of Oke-Gun would form a senatorial district.
The interested parties also expressed their preference for an Oke-Gun indigenous to be the senator who will represent Oyo North in the next dispensation from 2027.
While expressing concern about the security situation in the area, the elders declared: “The incidents of kidnapping in the areas of the local government of the northwest of the state of Kwara and parts of the state of Ogun are affecting the people of Oke, -ogun.”
This made them call the federal government, security agencies and governments of the states of Oyo, Kwara and Ogun to take proactive measures to end the insecurity situation.
They also requested concerted actions to verify the incessant incursion of the shepherds in the farms of the people of Oke-Gun, and the application of the Anti-Aberta Grazing Law that was approved in the state of Oyo about five years ago, strengthening the security agencies, the empowerment of the vigilant groups and the deployment of modern technology for security purposes.
The elderly argued that the situation of insecurity and the shortage of incentives are negatively affecting agricultural practices and asked the Government to provide better incentives to farmers in addition to strengthening security.
The meeting praised the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde for using teachers for schools in the state last year.
However, they observed that despite the noble exercise, most primary and secondary schools in Oke-OGun still suffer from inadequate personnel. He asked the Government to remedy this situation using indigenous people in the area to teach in their schools as soon as possible.
They praised the government for the current work on the roads in the area, while caught their attention to other inter and intown roads in Oke-Gun, “many of which are in a very deplorable state.”
Along the same lines, they praised the Federal Government for releasing money to facilitate the construction of the Badagry -one-Gun-Sokoto highway and requested accelerated action so that the project can be completed as soon as possible.

The Oke-OGun Council of Elders expressed a deep appreciation of the President for approving the establishment of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology recently located in Okeho, local government area of Kajola de Oke-Gun. They expressed the hope that everything necessary would be provided so that the university can take off as soon as possible.
The meeting indicated that the health centers in Oke-Gun are insufficient. Therefore, he asked the state and local government councils in the area that provides more health facilities and ensures that they are properly served and equipped. The meeting urged the state government to use and publish more health personnel to government-owned institutions in Oke-Gun.
