The State of the State of Lagos confirmed the arrest of a man identified as Amos Daniel, who allegedly murdered a woman who believes she was her girlfriend in a hotel in the Ayobo de Lagos area.

The tragic incident, which, according to the reports, occurred on Thursday, July 18, 2025, caused panic between the guests and the hotel staff after a disturbing noise was heard from one of the rooms.

According to eyewitness accounts, Daniel had registered at the hotel around 5 pm along with two other male companions. A guest, later identified as the victim, joined them shortly after. However, in approximately 10 pm, unusual sounds of their room were heard, which led to the hotel staff and other accommodations to investigate.

One of the guests, who gave his name simply as Adio, said the moment when the situation intensified. “I had been at the hotel since Wednesday. That night, I heard a strange noise from the next room. Someone warned a security officer, and when no one responded to the blow, the door opened with a spare key. It was when we saw a woman immobilized in a pool of blood.”

The surprising discovery led to an immediate alarm inside the hotel, since the staff began to look for the suspects. While two of the occupants had already fled, Daniel was found hidden inside the hotel facilities while trying to escape. He was subjected by staff and other guests before being delivered to the police.

A hotel worker, who requested anonymity, said the suspect was caught trying to flee through the door. “When we noticed that two had escaped, we knew that the third could still be close. During the search, we saw him running and we managed to catch him. He was hit by some angry guests before the police arrived.”

According to the source, Daniel supposedly confessed during the fight that he and his accomplices had attracted the woman to the hotel with the intention of killing her for ritual purposes.

Preliminary police investigations revealed the victim’s name as resistance, native to the state of Akwa Ibom.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations officer of the Police of the State of Lagos, SP Benjamin Handyin, said the hotel manager informed the crime to the Ayobo Police Station on Friday.

“The hotel manager declared that at approximately 1 pm on Thursday, an masters Daniel, whose address is still unknown, reserved a room in the facilities and registered at 5 pm with two other people,” said Hundyin.

“Approximately at 8 pm, while the hotel generator was resuriving, the manager heard a strange noise from the room. When verifying, he discovered the lifeless body of an adult, with multiple suspicious injuries of having been inflicted by an acute object.”

The police spokesman said Daniel and his companions tried to flee, but were persecuted by the hotel manager, who successfully arrested Daniel. According to reports, a dagger, which is believed to be used in the attack, fell from the suspect during the arrest.

Additional investigations led detectives to recover several articles of possession and the suspect facilities, which include: an UTC ax, a machete, a machete, multiple cat knives, a pair of scissors, a laptop, a local sponge and military jungle boots.

The victim, according to Hundeyin, suffered stab injuries to the abdomen, the head and the area of the ribs. Since then, his remains have been deposited in the morgue of Yaba General Hospital for autopsy.
