The number of visas granted to foreign citizens seeking to enter the United Kingdom (United Kingdom) for work, study, family or humanitarian ends have fallen abruptly, according to the new data published by the Ministry of Interior.
In the year until June 2025, the United Kingdom issued a total of 834,977 visas in these categories, a 32 percent decrease compared to the 1.23 million granted in the previous 12 months.
Work -related visas recorded the most significant fall, falling 48 percent of 545,855 to 286,071. The visas of the study also fell 18 percent to 435,891, while family visas decreased by 15 percent to 70,961.

Humanitarian and resettlement visas also saw a strong decrease. These include 14,216 visas under the Ukraine schemes (48 percent less), 11,804 to EU Kong state holders abroad (BNO) (BNO) (BOWN 47 percent) and 9,357 issued under the EU liquidation scheme (34 percent). 3,640 additional visas to the dependents were granted, while 3,037 were issued under other liquidation programs.
The latest figures represent the total total of 12 months since September 2021, when 802,415 visas were issued.
The strong decline follows a series of legal migratory reforms introduced last year by the former conservative government. These included restrictions that prevent international students and foreign care workers from bringing the United Kingdom dependents.
The Secretary of the Interior, Yvette Cooper, said that the efforts of the Labor Government were key to “restore the order” to the immigration system.
“We inherit an immigration and broken asylum system that the previous government left in chaos. Since it came to office, we have strengthened the visa and immigration controls of Great Britain, we reduce asylum costs and the increase in the increase and returns,” he said.
Cooper highlighted progress, including a 30 percent increase in the returns of failed asylum seekers, a 11 percent cut in asylum costs and a 18 percent reduction in the accumulation of cases. He added that the next reforms to the asylum appeal process would help “end the chaotic use of asylum hotels.”
In legal migration, he emphasized that the Government is determined to harden even more rules.
“We are recovering migration under control, with a 48 percent reduction in work visas this year and the strongest controls, along with the highest skills requirements, established in our white paper, will further reduce those more numbers..“
