The legal representatives of the Nigerian businessman and former candidate for governor, Ambassador Olufmi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, have formally requested the United States embassy in Lagos, seeking a review of the recent denial of visa issued to him and his wife, Mrs. Oyindamola Motunrola Ajadi.
In a letter dated August 18, 2025, the law firm of Izunya Izunya & Co., led by lawyer Isaac Izunya, requested a reconsideration of the decision, which was based on section 214 (b) of the Immigration and Nationality Law of the United States.
The letter addressed the United States Consular in 2 Walter Carrington Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos, and was also copied to the United States ambassador to Nigeria in Abuja.

The petition described the denial as “without foundation” and requested that the Embassy reexamine the documentation and the interview records of the applicants.
The legal team expressed concern about the absence of specific details in the rejection notice, pointing out that it did not include the names, application numbers or the information of the applicants’ passport.
According to legal representatives, Mr. and Mrs. Ajadi had requested business visas after an official Tunnad Properties invitation, a real estate firm based in the United States.
Supporting documents were presented, including an invitation letter dated May 15, 2025, and the couple attended a visa interview at the United States Embassy in Abuja.
However, their requests were rejected on August 4, 2025, under section 214 (b), which refers to concerns about the intention of the applicants to return to their country of origin.
BarrÃster Izunya argued that the decision lacked the specific justification of the case and requested the embassy:
Check the CCTV and audio recordings of the Visa interview,
Review all the documents sent and provide clear reasons if the refusal is found.
The legal team also declared that both applicants maintain strong commercial and family ties with Nigeria, and also have investments in Granada and the United Kingdom.
They argued that these ties demonstrate sufficient motifs for reconsideration.
The development follows the recent comments of Mr. Ajadi, who expressed broader concerns about the US visa issuance process during a public appearance in Ogun.
He questioned the transparency of mass visa rejections and raised problems regarding non -reimbursable application rates charged to Nigerian applicants.
The United States embassy has not yet issued an answer to the petition or the public statements of Mr. Ajadi.
The situation has drawn the attention of observers, and some pointed out the potential for broader diplomatic discussions about the transparency and reciprocity of visa processing between Nigeria and the United States.
