Bauchi’s state government has reaffirmed its commitment to provide free prenatal care and medications for pregnant women and children under five as part of an aggressive impulse to improve family health and reduce maternal and child mortality rates.
The statement was made by the State Information and Communications Commissioner, Usman Shehu Usman, during a ongoing project media tour and completed headed by the administration of Governor Balance Abdulkadir Mohammed.
During visits to primary medical care centers in Konkyel, the local government area of ​​Darazo and Dagauda, ​​the Dambam local government area, the USman Commissioner assured journalists that the Government has established provisions for essential drugs, delivery kits and other products to guarantee the success of free medical services.

“The Government is committed to the provision of quality, effective and efficient services in the health sector … to ensure that patients have access without obstacles to services,” he said.
The commissioner urged residents to make the most of available services by freely attending any health center throughout the State.
The officials on the site confirmed the government’s commitment. The officer in charge of the Konkyel primary health center confirmed a constant supply of medicines and delivery kits. Similarly, Tafida Hussaini, the official in charge of the Primary Health Care model in Dagauda, ​​declared that free prenatal care and drugs for women and children are actively provided to address maternal mortality.
“There is this program that is doing the government in which we offer free drugs for prenatal and vaccine among others,” said Tafida Hussaini, adding that the state government has provided funds for the purchase and storage of adequate drugs in the hospital.
The dagauda installation, which has been updated and expanded from 30 beds to a capacity of 49 beds, has also been equipped with a 24 -hour solar energy system. “We have enough water, there are solar energy, 24 hours, we don’t even use Nepa,” said Hussaini, highlighting the self -sufficiency of the installation.
The security for the health center has also been improved, and the African Development Bank provides seven security personnel in addition to those provided by the local government authority.
Despite the significant improvements, there is a key challenge. According to Tafida Hussaini, the expanded installation has seen a strong increase in patronage of patients, including neighboring states, leading to a shortage of personnel.
“Additional labor is needed to address the growing level of sponsorship,” he said, asking for more staff to guarantee the effective management of the hospital.
