The Oyo Assembly warns members against the politicization of the legislative mandate

The House of the Oyo State Assembly has warned its members not to take advantage of the legislative institution so that the favor of its voters or the general public.

This is because its members approved a vote of confidence in the administration led by Governor Seyi Makinde for development advances in all sectors of the economy.

By chairing the plenary after a six -week recess on Tuesday, the speaker, Rt. Excmo Adebo Ogundoyin said that the assembly would not tolerate any act that is hostile for the legislative business of the Chamber.

He argued that, since the Assembly would not punish or intimidate any of its members to publicize their position on any issue, it is also incorrect by members to play politics with the mandate that gave them their constituents.

Ogundoyin said: “We are not here to punish anyone, we are not here to victimize any member.

“In the House of the Oyo State Assembly, we understand the mandate granted to each member by their various constituencies. The mandate was not given by the executive arm or the assembly but by the constituents.

“We all respond to our constituents. Therefore, we must not deprive the innocent people of the quality representation. It will be an act of irresponsibility of our part to do something contrary to the mandate it gave us.

“In addition, if some members, because we are entering the political season, want to use the legislative institution to obtain an improper advantage due to what they lack in terms of quality representation, it will not work.

“If they, (members) are trying to gain sympathy from the public or constituents, public or party hierarchy or wherever they Think they like they can gain sympathy from using the house of askbly, i put it to you today Your Constituency, Listen to your People, Know Where Shoe Pinches Them, Come Back Here, Move Motion, Entee Entee, Summon Commissionsrs, Discuss with The Government at Apporte Time and Push for the Project for your constituency. “

In another development, the Assembly praised the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde for its bold development advances, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, governance and development reforms of the local government throughout the state.

Excmo Olajide Akintunde, which represents the constituency of the state of Lagelu, praised the successful completion of the supervision visits of the Chamber to the 33 areas of the local government in the state.

He pointed out that the exercise provided valuable information about the status of the ongoing projects and the performance of local government administrations.

Excmo Akintunde also applauded the peaceful and orderly conduct of the newly completed neighborhood congresses of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.

In your contribution, the Hon. Olatunde Kehinde, who represents Akinyele State Citherenency 2, highlighted the recent implementation of strategic strategic infrastructure projects throughout the state of Oyo.

He stressed that a significant part of the installation of N300 billion recently approved will finance the rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads, which are vital for economic growth and connectivity.

The majority leader, Hon. Sanjo ADEDAYIN, praised the launch of the Subnational Implementation Strategy of the State of Oyo for the African Continental Trade (AFCFTA) area, describing it as a visionary movement that positions the State as a key economic player within the continent.

He, from then on, moved a motion formally supporting the policies and direction of the administration led by Seyi Makinde, which was seconded by Chief Whip, Hon. Gbenga Oyakola.

Vice President, Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi, added his voice to the recommendations, stressing that the initiatives of the governor in health, education and infrastructure have significantly improved the lives of citizens throughout the state.

In his final comments, Ogondoyin reiterated the commitment of the Assembly to good governance and transparency.

He assured that the tenth assembly focuses on delivering their legislative responsibilities without bias or witch hunt.

Ogundyin encouraged all legislators to remain diligent, constructive and receptive to the needs of their constituents.
