The governor who returns from the state of Rivers, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has asked the people of Rivers to set aside their differences, work for the common good and advance the interests of the State above all.
Addressing people in a transmission throughout the state after returning to the Government’s house on Friday, Governor Fubara declared that it was everyone’s duty to ensure that the “peace we have all accepted remains permanent in our beloved state of Rivers.”
He noted that the political crisis was now behind them and that peace and stability “have once again returned to the state of Rivers, although not without the hard lessons learned from the emergency rule.”
Governor Fubara thanked all those who expressed genuine fears, frustrations and uncertainty about the nature of the peace process, assuring them that their “concerns are valid and understood.”
He pointed out: “However, nothing has been irremediably lost; there is still a great opportunity for the necessary adjustments, continuous reconciliation and inclusion. We must all remember the saying … ‘The most expensive peace is cheaper than the cheapest war’.”
Governor Fubara said: “In the name of the Government and the good condition of the state of Rivers, I extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. President for his paternal disposition and decisive interventions to resolve the political crisis and for gently restore the complete democratic governance to our State.
“Personally, I will never assume the kindness of Mr. President, and therefore, therefore I will reaffirm my maximum loyalty and eternal gratitude.
“For those who have expressed genuine fears, frustrations and uncertainty about the nature of the peace process, I assure you that their concerns are valid and understood. However, nothing has inevitably lost; it is still a wide opportunity for the necessary adjustments, continuous reconciliation and inclusiveness. We must all remember the saying … ‘The most expensive peace is the one that peace is the most sewing is the cheapest war.” “
The governor regretted that the state of Rivers was put under an emergency rule of six months, declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18, 2025, after the intense political crisis in the state.
“Without a doubt, the last six months had been greatly challenging for our beloved state under the emergency rule.
“As its governor, I agreed to comply with the statement of the state of emergency and chose to cooperate with Mr. President and the National Assembly, guided by my conviction that no sacrifice was too great to ensure peace, stability and progress for the state of the rivers.
“That is why I also resisted the pressure to challenge the constitutionality of the declaration of an emergency state, the suspension of democratic institutions and all the other actions we support during this difficult period.
“In the course of the six -month period, Mr. President Gentilly negotiated the peace process with all parties successfully. Our leader, his excellence Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, with, all members of the House of the Assembly of the State of Rivers, and I, as its governor, have agreed to bury the ax and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our state of state.”
On behalf of the Government and the good people of the state of Rivers, the sincere gratitude to President Tinubu extended for his paternal disposition and decisive interventions to resolve the political crisis and for gently restore democratic totality to the State.
“Personally, I will never assume the kindness of Mr. President, and therefore, therefore I will reaffirm my maximum loyalty and eternal gratitude,” he said.
Fubara added: “Despite turbulence, you are aware of the credible milestones that our administration achieved in infrastructure, education, medical care and other key sectors in the last two years.
“Our immediate responsibility is to return to the path of governance and development by completing the projects that we begin, ensuring that none of them are hungry for funds or careless people, thus reviving our economy, protecting lives and properties and improving the well -being of all people of rivers.
“I promise to work harmoniously with the House of the Assembly of the State of Rivers to recover lost land and accelerate the social and economic progress of our beloved state. I also renew my promise to serve with the fear of God, humility and a high sense of service.
“I sincerely wish thanks, the resistant people of the state of Rivers, for their patience, courage and peaceful behavior during the six months of emergency rule.
“I also extend thanks to all interested parties, religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society groups, political actors, groups of women, young people, citizens worried at home and abroad, and supporters whose prayers and support held us during the challenging period.
“Above all, we miss the strength of our shared identity as people of rivers. Our diversity is our greatest asset, and our unity is the greatest guarantee of our future. We must overcome bitterness and division and channel our energies to the reconstruction of trust, promote inclusion and ensure a peaceful and prosperous state for all.
“I also thank our leader, his excellence Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, with, the honorable Minister of the Territory of the Federal Capital, for committing to the rapid resolution of the political impasse in the State.
“I also want to express my deep thanks to the president of the Senate, the senator of his excellence Godswill Akpabio; the president of the House of Representatives, his excellence Dr. Abbas Tajudeen; and the distinguished members of the National Assembly for the role they played in resolution of the matter.
“I thank the honorable president and all members of the House of the Assembly of the State of Rivers, the respected elders, interested parties and all citizens concerned with working together to resolve our differences and guarantee peace and harmony in our state.
“Finally, I call all citizens of the state of Rivers, regardless of political, religious or ethnic affiliation, to unite hands to rebuild our beloved state and ensure a future of dignity and progress for all. In total, I give glory to the Almighty God.”
