The governor of the state of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, assured President Bola Tinubu that he will not assume the role he played to resolve the political crisis of the State.
In a state broadcast on Friday, Fubara praised Tinubu for intervening during the six -month emergency rule imposed in March, saying that President’s actions helped restore democratic governance in the state.
“On behalf of the Government and the good people of the state of Rivers, I extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. President for his paternal disposition and decisive interventions to resolve the political crisis and to graciously restore democratic governance to our state,” he said.
The governor went further to express personal loyalty to the president, describing his actions as an act of goodness that would not be forgotten.
“Personally, I will never give the kindness of Mr. President, and therefore, I reaffirm my maximum loyalty and eternal gratitude,” he added.
Fubara explained that he accepted the state of emergency instead of challenging him in court because he believed that peace and stability were more important for river people.
He said that this election was guided by his conviction to put the interest of the State first.
“As its governor, I agreed to comply with the statement of the state of emergency and chose to cooperate with Mr. President and the National Assembly, guided by my conviction that no sacrifice was too great to ensure the peace, stability and progress of the state of the rivers,” he said.
He added that Tinubu’s intervention also brought the reconciliation between the main stakeholders, including former governor Nyesom Wike, members of the State Assembly Chamber and himself. According to him, this agreement has left the crisis behind.
“We believe that the political crisis is now behind us and that peace and stability have once again returned to the state of Rivers, although not without the hard lessons learned from the emergency rule,” said Fubara.
The governor urged political leaders and interested parties to put aside the differences and work together for the common good of the State.
