Senator Ayodele Arise, a head of the Congress of all the progressives of the State of Ekiti, has criticized those who continue to question the statement of President Bola Tinubu of an emergency state in the state of Rivers last March.
In a national transmission, President Tinubu announced an emergency state in the state of Rivers, suspending Governor Fubara, Vice Governor Ngozi Odu and all the chosen members of the State Assembly Chamber for an initial period of six months.
After this, he appointed Ibokette Ibas, a vice president of Almirante retired, as an administrator to supervise state affairs in the interest of its residents.
Governor Fubara and his deputy, along with suspended legislators, resumed their offices after the six -month emergency period ended.
The action taken by President Tinubu faced criticism of the Democratic Party of the Peoples and the African Democratic Congress, which described him as a threat to democracy.
In a conversation with journalists during the weekend, Senator Arise said that the actions initiated by Governor Sim Fubara, such as the demolition of the state assembly building, represented a significant danger to the representative government.
The senator, who represented the Senatorial District of Ekiti North from 2007 to 2011, also recalled the bombings of oil facilities in the state of Rivers before the emergency declaration, stating that these incidents were harmful to the country’s economic survival.
He said: “The demolition of the structure of democracy itself, which is the State Assembly, legislators could not sit and the oil facilities were being bombed, required the emergency rule that the president had to declare at that time.
“The actions of Governor Fubara against the State Assembly and the demolition since they actually gave a lot of space for third -party intervention, particularly the president.
“Being the president of the Federation, and the way in which the tension was being built in the rivers, it is a very important state when it observes our source of income. The rivers contribute a significant amount of money in the Federation, idem in other states in the Delta region. It did not take the action it took.”
“I think that the action taken by Mr. President will ensure that there is peace in the rivers even though I am not aware of the peace agreement. The governor has come out in clear terms to say that he wants peace. Senator Arise also dismissed the insinuation that the electorate of the rivers who was bothered by the position of President Tinubu in the Impasse of the rivers would be revolved with his votes in the next general elections.
The APC chief who recalled that the APC won 14 of the local government of 23 in the state of Rivers in the last presidential elections expressed its confidence that the ruling party would keep its feat for its performance in the last elections of the local government held in the state of Rivers.
He declared that Governor Fubara as his colleagues in the Niger Delta region, would align with the aspiration in the second term of President Tinubu.
“Wike is still controlling the structures, the APC won in almost the entire local government. Those, will want to retain their work and they are the ones who do the work. They are closer to the bases, they are the presidents of the local government and want to do things that will attract them to people. Once he has it, he is already controlling the bases and that is what we will see.”
