The former presidential assistant, Reno Omokri, said that former President Muhammadu Buhari wasted Nigeria’s money by attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during his eight years in office.
In mail In X on Tuesday, Omokri defended the absence of President Bola Tinubu in the 80a Unga ongoing, insisting that criticism against him were out of place.
“The people who criticize President Tinubu for not attending the United Nations General Assembly have flexible minds that are easily manipulated. General Buhari attended each Unga during the eight years that he was president. What benefit was his assistance to Nigeria?”
He argued that Baja Buhari, Nigeria’s economy deteriorated despite the constant participation in the UN Annual Meeting.
“Buhari, Nigeria’s economy went from being the third fastest growing economy in the world, with a GDP of $ 510 billion in 2014, to one of the slowest economies in the world in 2023 when Buhari delivered President Tinubu with a GDP of $ 187.76 billion.”
The former presidential assistant challenged Tinubu’s critics to name any economic gain of Buhari’s trips.
“Can any of those who criticize President Tinubu tell the Nigerians precisely an economic benefit of the eight visits of General Buhari to the nation?”
Omokri emphasized that Tinubu had no travel restrictions, noting that he attended the 78A Unga in 2023 and other summits that produced investments for Nigeria.
“But the man is a Cum Laude accountant (first class) who has performed a cost-benefit analysis about the assistance to the Nigeria Unga.
“A presidential assistance to the UNGA can cost Nigeria up to $ 10-20 million. Meanwhile, what are we obtaining from him? If he does an average cost analysis of the costs of costs and the financial impact of presidential assistance in UNGA, it is a responsibility in accounting terms.”
Drawing comparisons, he said that China’s Xi Jinping rarely attends the Unga, however, his country’s economy continues to grow rapidly.
“The Xi Jinping of China barely attends the United Nations General Assembly. The last time he attended was the 76th Unga in 2021. In 2025, he will be represented by his deputy, Li Qianq. The Chinese are not making a great scandal about it. Its economy is growing faster than almost any other economy on earth.
“So, why are we doing a big problem about Vice President Kashim Shettima who represents President Tinubu in the 80a Unga?” Omokri wrote.
He added that Nigeria needs results -based commitments and emphasized the recent Tinubu profits of international meetings.

“He attended the BRICS Summit in Brazil in July this year and returned with an investment of $ 2.5 billion in Nigeria for the Brazilian meat producer JBS.
“Such visits are why, in less than two years, President Tinubu added $ 67 billion to the GDP of Nigeria, moving from an economy of ₦ 269.29 billion on May 29, 2023, when he became president, ₦ 372.8 billion today.
“No government in the history of Nigeria has expanded the country’s economy by 25% in just two years.”
Omokri argued that the assists of the Anga de Buhari did not produce clear profits and urged Tinubu’s critics to present evidence otherwise.
“So again, I ask their critics to list the tangible benefits for Nigeria of the eight General Assemblies of the United Nations to which General Buhari attended a great financial cost for Nigeria.”
