The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded to the presidency about its recent statement that President Bola Tinubu has no plans to remain in office beyond 2031.
In a statement signed by its Secretary of National Advertising, Mallam Balaji Abdullahi, the party said that the president’s mandate ends in 2027 and argued that the Nigerians would not want to extend their possession.
The ADC added that with continuous insecurity, economic difficulties and tax increase, President Tinubu should prepare to go at the end of his mandate, without making plans to stay longer.

“The desperate response of the presidency to the recent comments of the former governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, that President Bola Tinubu has plans to be a president of life only to confirm what the Nigerians have suspected for a long time: this administration is not only out of contact with reality, but also became dangerously self-sufficient.
“That the president is already talking about remaining in office until 2031 betrayed a mentality that rules out re -election as mere formalities, instead of a constitutional requirement to present his score card to the people. But re -election is not automatic, and President Tinubu has not won a second mandate.
“In any case, in two short years, he has shown Nigeria what he is able to do. He has divided the country as no other president before him and has sent most of the Nigerians more deeply to poverty. More innocent lives have been lost under him, and the bandits have effectively taken control of a great strip of our drool of our north.
“Under their vigilance, national security has been degenerated in a cruel joke. Terrorists, bandits and criminals now operate with total impunity. Citizens are kidnapped in broad daylight. Rural communities have become war areas.

“Pacific protesters are brutalized. And all this is happening under the surveillance of a president who once claimed to be a Democrat. Today, he presides over a system that is increasingly authoritarian in tone, arrogant in position and hostile to responsibility.
“Transparency and fiscal discipline have become relics of an forgotten era. The administration has adopted the secret as a principle of government. The budgetary padding, the wasteful expense, the opaque palliatives and the inexplicable loans have defined their fiscal behavior.
