The presidential candidate of the Labor Party in the general elections of 2023, Peter Obi, has condemned the alleged sponsorship of 21 wives of the presidents of the local government in the state of Adamawa on a trip to Turkey, describing it as a waste of public resources.

OBI, in a statement on Friday, said it was disturbing that it is estimated that N600 million in public funds were supposedly spent on the foreign trip under the appearance of leadership training, while the pressing problems in basic education and other critical sectors remained unattended.

He pointed out that many children at the level of basic education were out of school or studied without adequate classrooms and teachers, while local government pensioners were probably due to them, and teachers continued to face economic difficulties.

Obi added that the funds could have built around 30 blocks from six classrooms at an average cost of N20 million each, which would have directly affected children and communities in the state.

While praising the efforts of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in the development of infrastructure in Yola, the former governor of the state of Anambra emphasized that Adamawa still needed urgent investment in education, medical care and relief of poverty.

“Today, while our children at the level of basic education, whose education is the responsibility of local governments, are out of school, and those in school lack classrooms and teachers, while LGA pensioners are due, and teachers continue to fight under economic difficulties, it is selfless that scarce resources are channeled to frivolities such as foreign excursions for the wives of local governments that do not have a local governments that do not have a local governments. Public office that does not have a public office, at a cost of 600. funds.

“While I sincerely congratulate Governor Fintiri and his team for his efforts, especially in the Infrastructure Area in Yola, Adamawa remains one of the states in urgent need for investment in critical sectors such as education, medical attention and relief of poverty. He argued that local government funds belonged to people and should not be diverted to frivolities, warning that anything other than the government -oriented government was an abuse of charge.

“This is not only an obvious case of waste but a mockery of the very essence of governance.”
